Our Story
Sikkim Government College Burtuk was established in 2012 as the second campus of Sikkim Government College Tadong to meet the increasing demand for higher education in the state. It acquired its own separate identity as an independent college when it became affiliated to Sikkim University in August 2014.
This institution had a very humble beginning from a few rooms in the DIET building with only 179 students and 8 teachers. Today Sikkim Government College Burtuk has its own independent sprawling campus spread over 3.4 hectares of land at the Old India Press complex in Balwakhani.

Situated atop a picturesque hill with a panoramic view of the entire Gangtok town, this college with its quiet, idyllic environment has become ideal for learning and teaching.
The current enrolment is of 1149 students. In the tenth years of its existence, the student strength of the college has increased from a mere 179 to 1149.
Academic Programs
Offering diverse undergraduate programs in Humanities and Commerce
Honours Programme
The Honours programme comprises of six semesters of regular study. A semester is of six months duration. This is followed by a University examination at the end of each semester.
At present, the college is offering Honours courses in Commerce and seven subjects in Humanities, which includes English, Nepali, Political Science, History, Economics, Education and Sociology. Besides, there are also compulsory papers like Compulsory English, Environmental Science and Eastern Himalayan Studies.
